The Secret to Technical Excellence: Why Consistency is Everything in Futsal

At Manchester Futsal Youth Academy, we are often asked the same question by parents:

"How can my child improve their technique?" The answer is simple - consistency.

Developing technical ability doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, effort, and regular repetition of the same skills. No matter how good a coaching session is, the biggest improvements happen outside of training, when players take responsibility for their own development.

At Manchester Futsal Youth Academy, we provide the tools, the environment, and the coaching to help players improve. But the real difference-maker is what they do beyond the sessions.

Why Does Consistency Matter?

Futsal is a game of high level of skills and quick decision making. The best players develop their technique through repetition - touching the ball hundreds, even thousands of times every single day.

“Futsal is all about technique,” says Ilya Ovechkin, Academy Director at Manchester Futsal. “The only way to improve is through consistent practice. The players who put in extra work outside of our sessions are the ones who develop the fastest.”

It doesn’t take hours of training to refine technique - just 5 to 10 minutes a day of focused ball mastery can make a difference. Whether it’s practising in the garden, at the park, or in a small space at home, the key is regular repetition.

“Some players expect to come to training and master a skill straight away,” Ovechkin explains. “But that’s not how it works. Learning technique is about consistency. If a player keeps practising the same movements over and over, it becomes natural to them in a game situation.”

How We Help Players Improve

At Manchester Futsal Youth Academy, we encourage every player to take ownership of their development. We provide:

Experienced Coaches Who Have Played the Game – Our coaching staff includes former and current futsal players who understand the game and are passionate about helping young players improve.

A Great Learning Environment – We encourage players to be themselves, express their creativity, and play without fear.

Creative, Engaging Sessions – Our training is designed to challenge players in different ways, helping them refine their technique, decision-making, and movement in game-like scenarios.

A Unique Mix of Players – Our academy brings together players from different backgrounds, grassroots footballers, and academy-level players, creating a rich and competitive training environment where everyone learns from one another.

A Pathway for Development – Whether you're just starting out or looking to take your game to the next level, futsal provides the perfect foundation for technical excellence.

But ultimately, it’s up to the players to put in the work.

“We can give players the ideas and the coaching,” says Raducio King, Head of Coaching at MFC Academy. “But the ones who improve the most are the ones who put in the extra work.”

“Our environment allows players to express themselves,” King continues. “When they step onto the court, they should feel like this is a place to be themselves, take on challenges, and truly enjoy the game. Our coaches are there to support, encourage, and teach the game of futsal with high level of skills. But the learning doesn’t stop when the session ends - it continues with the work players put in outside of training.”

The Players Who Improve the Most Do This One Thing

We’ve seen it over and over again - some players improve much faster than others. When we ask them what they’ve been doing differently, the answer is always the same:

They’ve been practising outside of training.

“We’ve had players who, in just four or five weeks, have made huge improvements in their technique and confidence,” King says. “And every time, it’s because they’ve been working on their skills at home. But just as important is coming to the sessions consistently and regularly. The learning never stops, especially with technique.

The more you practice and expose yourself to these situations, the more natural it becomes. It gives you that confidence as a player to express yourself, to try new things, and to trust in your ability on the court.”

The Joy of Developing through Futsal

Futsal is more than just a game - it’s a platform for creativity, skill, and self-expression. The fast-paced nature of futsal means players are constantly involved, getting more touches on the ball, making quick decisions under pressure, and developing close control in tight spaces.

Unlike traditional football, where players can go long stretches without meaningful involvement, futsal ensures every player is active, engaged, and improving. It’s a sport that rewards technical ability, intelligence, and composure - qualities that make players stand out both in futsal and on the football pitch.

"Futsal is such an enjoyable game to play as it allows players to be constantly involved, always making decisions and refining their technique," says Ilya Ovechkin. "If you want to develop real skill and confidence on the ball, there’s no better way to train."

At Manchester Futsal Academy, we welcome players who want to take their game to the next level, learn new skills, and master their technique in an exciting, high-level environment. Whether you're new to futsal or looking to sharpen your technique, our academy provides the perfect place to grow, improve, and most importantly - enjoy the game.
